Compiled from the Mahabharata — Adi Parva genealogies, Astika, Sambhava, and the war books — with Puranic or Harivamsha fills where the epic names a line but not every stepping-stone. Foster and niyoga parents are both recorded. Story-bonds mark encounters a reader hits in the recitation, not extra blood.
Edition
English plot follows Kisari Mohan Ganguli, The Mahabharata of Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa, 1883–1896, as commonly archived at Sacred Texts. This site does not republish the translation. It cites it.
Relationship kinds
- Mahabharata text — named in the epic’s genealogies or war books.
- Harivamsha / Puranic tradition — used to complete a line the Bharata names without listing every node.
- Foster or niyoga — kept distinct from birth-parents. Karna has Kunti and Surya, and also Adhiratha and Radha. The Pandavas have gods and Pandu.
- Variant — where traditions disagree, the page should say so rather than pick silently.
- Editorial reconstruction — a story-bond or house grouping added so a reader can walk the recitation. These are labelled as story, not as blood.
What this is not
Not a critical edition apparatus. Not a replacement for the BORI text, the Ganguli or Dutt translations, or a teacher. Corrections are welcome on the About page.
